My son and I took in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Night Scrimmage at Raymond James Stadium. My take on what I saw early is that we need some more bodies on the interior of the defensive line. I really like Coach Grag Schiano’s approach to building this team. He is starting with fundamentals. The Offensive Line and Quarterback will be the strengths of this year’s team. Josh Freeman looks excellent and the running backs look explosive.
I actually think the defense may still struggle to get off the field in key situations due to the new personnel, but the ceiling is very high for this unit. I expect to see a good turnover ratio for the defense because the coaching staff is teaching effort to the football. As a big fan of the Tony Dungy and Monty Kiffin Tampa 2 defenses I can honestly say that flying to the football has been lacking the past few years. As a player you would be surprised how maximum effort can work in your favor. As a former Wide Receiver myself this is the most interesting position battle. Several capable players are positioning for playing time behind star free agent signing Vincent Jackson. Stay tuned…
